Face Mask 2000

I made these 2 face masks 20 years ago as part of a ‘Future Jewellery’ project. Little did I imagine the Coronovirus - Corvid 19 would make facemarks commonplace all over the world in 2020! I had thought we would be really struggling with the environment…….although this is still true too. And may we learn from it!

These masks are a take on the Martindale Dust Mask I commonly used at the time. The middle face mask is patinated to look worn, as I imagined toxic air would corrode the piece. The third mask was more of a blingy mask, you could still have bright painted lips while wearing your face mask.

I took a plaster cast of my lower face. I made a wax impression from this, which was electro-formed in copper.
